Ilene Hillary Hinden

Since I was born I have loved art. My beautiful mother saw this in me very early on and encouraged me to be creative and draw and paint. I went to art school when I was 5 to 17. I spent a summer in art school at Cornell University and went to Syracuse University where I received a BFA in Advertising Design.

After graduation, I went on to work as a designer in advertising agencies and publications. I then started my agency and moved to NYC. To my great fortune, this was at the time Steve Jobs came on the scene with the Apple Mac. This completely changed my life, and I feel incredibly lucky that I grew up in this era. I had all the traditional training in design, and now I could make all of it happen right in front of me. And that is what I did, and continue to do every day.

And so, after many years of doing everything on the Mac, I fell in love again — this time with monotype printing, in a LightScapes Studio class with Gina Torello, an incredible Monmouth County Arts educator — and the postdigital art movement, which combines technology and analog art to produce new and innovative works. I’m so excited to bring my new collection to you called “Misaligned”. Each work of art is a combination of digitally printed images and monotype ink. These pieces see beauty often overlooked when things in life are misaligned. Each is meant to evoke happiness at the end of each transformation.
